Gas fees are the cost of executing transactions and smart contract operations on the Polygon network. Unlike Ethereum, where gas fees can be significant during peak congestion, Polygon is known for its very low gas costs. However, gas prices still fluctuate based on network demand, and the PolygonScan Gas Tracker helps users optimize their timing and fee settings.
The Gas Tracker is accessible from the PolygonScan homepage or via the Resources dropdown in the top navigation menu. It displays three recommended gas price tiers: Slow, Standard, and Fast. Each tier shows the gas price in Gwei and an estimated confirmation time in seconds.
Understanding Gwei is important for using the Gas Tracker effectively. Gas on Polygon is denominated in Gwei, which is a unit of the native POL token. One Gwei equals one billionth of one POL.
Gas Price History and Charts
PolygonScan provides historical gas price charts that show how average gas prices have varied over time, by day, by week, and by month. These charts reveal patterns in network usage that can inform your transaction timing strategy.
Setting Gas Prices in Your Wallet
Armed with data from the PolygonScan Gas Tracker, you can set accurate gas prices in your wallet application. In MetaMask, clicking Edit on the gas fee section allows you to enter a custom gas price in Gwei that matches the current Standard or Fast tier shown on PolygonScan.
